Learning Goals – Collecting Media

To consider the past, present, and future of organizing media and information in archives, libraries, and other media assemblages.
To recognize the breadth of media gathered together into various collections, where those collections reside, and who stewards them — as well as what media have been excluded or evaded capture.
To consider why and how we collect media; why it matters for myriad scholarly fields, industries, creative practitioners, and communities; and how we might do it better.
To acknowledge the various ethical, political, pedagogical, and creative ends toward which we collect media.
To appreciate the pragmatics, opportunities, and challenges of developing and stewarding media collections.
To acknowledge our own roles in responsibly contributing to and supporting the collection of media and information — or refusing to do so.
